Custer Township

Mason County, Michigan

A peaceful place to grow.

Custer Township is a scenic rural community in Mason County, Michigan with strong historic roots. Formed in 1878 and named after General George Custer, this township is home to the Village of Custer which lies completely within its boundaries.

Evidence of its agricultural past still exists as much of Custer Township remains farming oriented. There are several local landmarks, such as the large cow head on Main street on the Sander’s Meats building (well-known family-run butcher), and the Custer Bridge over the Pere Marquette River that are often referenced when giving directions to visitors.
